Are you thinking about straightening your teeth with clear aligners? They offer a discreet and convenient way to achieve a healthier, more attractive smile. Still, as a careful consumer, you may want to gather more information before you schedule a consultation with a dentist who offers them. To help you out, this blog post provides answers to five common SureSmile questions.
Does SureSmile Hurt?
SureSmile aligners are made out of a smooth plastic material that rests as comfortably as possible against the soft tissues in the mouth. There are no metal brackets or wires to irritate sensitive areas. However, keep in mind that orthodontic treatment works by applying consistent pressure to the teeth. That pressure can cause some discomfort, particularly when you first switch to a new aligner. Pain medication and sipping and cold water can help you to cope with any oral soreness. Many patients also find it helpful to switch to a new aligner at night so they can sleep through the first part of the adjustment period.
How Long Should You Wear the Aligners Each Day?
It is best to wear the aligners as much as possible, preferably for around 22 hours each day; they should only be removed during meals and for oral hygiene purposes. Still, there is some flexibility. For example, if you want to take your aligners out for a photoshoot or special event, it is unlikely to adversely affect your treatment’s outcome.
How Long Does SureSmile Treatment Take?
The total treatment time varies from patient to patient. Some individuals can achieve final results in less than one year, whereas others must wear their aligners for 18 months or longer. During your consultation, your SureSmile dentist will be able to provide you with an estimated treatment timeline. On average, SureSmile is 40% faster than conventional orthodontics.
Can You Drink Coffee While Wearing SureSmile?
The only liquid you can drink while wearing your aligners is plain water. Drinking coffee while wearing them could cause stains or damage. However, that doesn’t mean you have to give up your daily cup of Joe. Simply remove your aligners, enjoy your coffee, rinse your aligners, give your mouth a quick cleaning, and place your aligners back in your mouth.
What Is the Difference Between SureSmile and Invisalign?
SureSmile and Invisalign are similar in many ways. Both use innovative technology, and both have been proven to produce predictable, desirable results for patients. The aligners are made out of slightly different materials, but both are high-quality. In general, SureSmile costs slightly less than Invisalign.
